After an excellent medium-budget film (Pain & Gain), the never quite good enough Michael Bay dives back into his beloved Transformers saga with this fourth installment.

Fortunately, we no longer see Shia LaBeouf as the protagonist but an excellent Mark Wahlberg and an equally great Stanley Tucci taking on a role similar to that of John Turturro in the previous films. The plot is quite similar to the other movies, only this time we have a renewal of the human characters; on the writing side, Kruger wanted to go overboard and had the brilliant idea of introducing two evil alien robot enemies! One of whom we will see again in future sequels.

The choice to set part of the film in China is striking, a country that is a goldmine in terms of earnings for giant robot films. The special effects are undoubtedly impactful, which is of fundamental interest to the audience of this movie.

Summing up, this fourth chapter was a breath of fresh air for the franchise. I believe all lovers of big bangs who enjoy watching this type of film in theaters might like it a lot. I also really like the softened directorial style that Bay adopts in this installment, thus sparing the viewers from catatonic crises.

Don’t expect a masterpiece; it's Transformers, namely explosions and destruction with a touch of eye candy.
