After 7 years as the frontman of Stryper, our Michael Sweet leaves his band to pursue a solo career.
His first work is this self-titled album released in 1994, which immediately receives much acclaim from critics and fans. The musical style is not much different from that of Stryper except for the fact that it is lighter (no longer metal but hard rock), yet there are still well-amplified guitars as in "All This And Heaven Too", ballads that one cannot do without like "Someday" and "Forever yours", and the usual Michael Sweet who struggles to control his great voice that takes off several times, getting lost among the clouds, as if to remind us of the times with Stryper when he screamed like crazy! The only apparent innovation is perhaps the use of the sax heard in "Tomorrow, Tonight", since he had never used wind instruments in Stryper. In short, one can say it’s an excellent Christian hard rock album!
A linear, well-arranged, and well-played album that doesn't falter and finds its best moments in the rocking "All This And Heaven Too", the magnificent ballad "Someday", and in "Together" and "J.E.S.U.S." where the artist's Christian roots are more prominently emphasized.
This album is the First and the Best of Michael Sweet's career, where he also achieved greater commercial success (at least so far) and is capable of giving us unforgettable emotions for 42 minutes and 56 seconds across 10 excellent tracks. I therefore recommend it as a remedy against sadness and melancholy, and especially to all those who loved Stryper!
Try it to believe it!
