"Thank You"
This simple phrase has been uttered countless times by Michael Schenker. A thank you to all the fans who have always followed, applauded, and criticized him. And in 1993 he decided to put aside the electric guitar, take a break from his Group - the solo project of the German guitarist - and chose to thank, and delight, the audience with an acoustic album.
It's difficult for me to review an acoustic album, not being an expert in guitar technique, but I can tell you about the many emotions listening to this record has given me. One cannot say that Michael Schenker is uninspired. The German guitarist showcases his entire repertoire and gives a guitar lesson to the novice wielders of the six strings. Like a composer from the 18th century, Schenker uses all forms, tempos, and motifs possible. Cheerful melodies, some nostalgic, fast rhythms. The technique is impressive, but it's nothing new. Those familiar with Michael Schenker already know what he has done with the Scorpions, U.F.O., and M.S.G. And he can also juggle styles: with how much nonchalance we can note the transition from neo-classical, to folk, to purest rock.
Listening to the album is a magical sensation, it's rare that an acoustic album has captivated me so much. If anyone hypothesizes getting bored while listening, I believe they will retract it afterward. It's impossible to detach from these magical melodies, sometimes nostalgic, at other times cheerful (in the classical sense of the word). Andante, moderato, lively, Michael Schenker plays in a musical trance. All the songs have a strong melodic imprint, an ideal accompaniment to allow the German to draw, like Leonardo or Botticelli, the dreamy music. There's not much left to improvisation; instead, Schenker plays impeccably, following the guidelines he sets out to trace. The iconic song of the album, in my opinion, is Positive Forward. Simply unique, to which I am particularly attached for personal reasons. The song is a true classical work, art becomes guitar and is felt.
Thank You is an album dedicated to the public, and the public can do nothing but listen to it and, in turn, thank Michael Schenker.
