Sex and the City was born back in 1998, from the brilliant mind - for the lovers of the genre - of Darren Star, who enjoys a terrible reputation after creating Beverly Hills 90210. The TV show was inspired by the book by Candace Brushnell. The setting is Manhattan, and the protagonists are four friends, more or less of the same age. The six series have a total of ninety-four episodes, in which the romantic intrigues become increasingly complex.
Carrie Bradshaw - played by Sarah Jessica Parker - is a well-known journalist at the 'Newyork Star', who maintains her own column, aptly titled 'Sex and the City'. Samantha Jones - portrayed by Kim Cattral - is a PR, Charlotte York - Kristin Davis - has left her job following her decision to become a new mom, and finally, Miranda Hobbes - Cynthia Nixon - is a partner at a law firm. Seven years of history, seven years of men. Carrie has a longstanding relationship with Mr. Big, who, after the end of the sixth series, is finally called by his real name: John J. Preston - played by Chris Noth; Samantha has moved to Los Angeles with her boyfriend, with whom she has been for about five years, Smith Jerrod; Charlotte is married to the Jewish Harry Goldenblatt, her second husband; Miranda has moved after years from Manhattan to Brooklyn for the love of Steve Brady, her husband, and for the love of her son, Brady Hobbes.
Various rumors circulated regarding the trailer; it was suspected that many scenes were 'fakes', scenes that would not be in the series, scenes meant only to disorient the viewer. The film is set in New York (although some scenes feature Samantha in her luxurious beach house), three years after the last episode of the series. Carrie is engaged to Mr. Big, and they are about to get married, Charlotte has managed to adopt a sweet Chinese girl, Miranda is cheated on by Steve, and Samantha returns to New York at least once a week.
Michael Patrick King - the director - is capable of making the film flow in such a magical way that the duration of the film doesn’t seem like just one hundred and forty mere minutes, and the stories intertwine, intertwine more and more, until a rather difficult knot is reached. Will the four friends be able to untangle it? And will their friendship remain the same? It seems obvious that I won’t be the one to reveal the ending, but it's worth watching.
After all, women viewers especially have been wondering for years: «Will Carrie and Mr. Big be together forever?», «Will Samantha manage not to cheat on Smith?», «Will Charlotte become pregnant?» and «Will Miranda fully live her story with Steve?».

The film adaptation...has very little of the verve that characterizes the original.
The narrative fabric, which in a comedy should be as solid as a Swiss bank, miserably collapses.
