Anyone who was passionate about video games in the early '90s will have at least heard of the fantastic Monkey Island series.
This series from LucasArts represents one of the peaks of the so-called "point-and-click" adventure genre; set in a fantastic Caribbean archipelago, it tells the adventures of a young man, Guybrush Threepwood, with the dream of becoming a pirate. Still thoroughly enjoyable today, the series is characterized by a surreal and zany atmosphere, a lethal cocktail of jokes, grog, insult duels, surreal characters and dialogues, undead, and pirate adventures (and monkeys, lots of monkeys!); it's impossible to remain indifferent!
An absolutely genuine product, of quality and refreshing, as well as one of the pinnacles of the entire history of virtual entertainment. The opening theme perfectly represents the spirit of the game; even though it was taken and modified in the later titles, the first version remains the best (especially if you’re nostalgic like myself); a MIDI composition that mixes pirate-Caribbean music with reggae/dub. If you want to give it a listen.
Ps: no monkeys were harmed during the writing of this review
