Rating: This time it's not one of the many reissues that have been made for this album (millennium edition, special edition and blablabla..) this time it's a true musical event.
After 25 years of unbeaten records "Thriller" is being released worldwide once again to celebrate a quarter of a century. An unforgettable, complete, definitive edition. Sure.. marketing stunt, but this time done perfectly!
The work done for this anniversary is very valuable, starting from the various covers, which portray Michael both in the classic version and the one with zombies, golden covers in rigid cardboard, a 20-page inner booklet (or 50 if you get the deluxe version) which is a work of art in itself, with the most beautiful images from the "Thriller" video, various vintage photos, a dedication signed by Michael Jackson, all in high-quality glossy paper, and above all, two discs that marked the history of entertainment: the album "Thriller" containing the 9 songs plus the new 2008 versions sung by various artists like Will.I.Am, Akon, and Fergie, artists of modern R&B, plus the beautiful and poignant "For All Time" (taken from the album recording session) and the super DVD with the historic videos from the record, especially the legendary live performance by Michael in "Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever," where Jackson performed his Moonwalk for the first time, the most famous dance move of all time. Seeing Michael Jackson FOR THE FIRST TIME performing "Billie Jean" in front of an audience while staying on stage alone for 4 minutes, executing dance moves so clean, beautiful, harmonious, accompanied by alien charisma and magnetism.. is something the world will never forget! It's practically history! Things never seen before! Things that, despite the myriad of dancers and singers trying to imitate him, will never be seen again.
But beyond the visual component of a "super stage monster," Michael gives us the perfect record! A record that not only marked an era but all eras, and will continue to be glorified for eternity. The superstar guests (like Van Allen) are historic and have helped make the album great... but.. without its performer and without its brilliant producer Quincy Jones, it wouldn't have been the same. The Jackson/Jones union gave birth to the Masterpiece of the 80s, and an eternal masterpiece in world discography. All of it... in only 9 songs!
Eight Grammy Awards! 104 million copies sold worldwide! (this record is gigantic, unbeatable! Eternal!). A music video that "invented" modern videos (mini films with dancers in the background: 90% of today’s videos.) A horde of fans scattered around the globe, trillions of imitators, a uniqueness so magical that even Jackson himself could not surpass it (despite the meticulous artistic quality of his subsequent albums).
"Thriller" can be done only once, Jackson's detractors beware! So enjoy this 25th anniversary with this truly well-done memorable CD. Looking forward to the 50th with anticipation!
