MM..Food?

It was 1999 when MF Doom, the most famous masked man in rap, debuted with his first album, "Operation Doomsday." Since then, his modern schizoid and metropolitan drug addict personality has given us numerous gems, from the various "Special Herbs," collections of instrumentals produced by our man, to the excellent albums resulting from his psychopathic alter egos (King Gheedorah - "Take Me To Your Leader" and the two works released under the name Viktor Vaughn, "Vaudeville Villain" and "Venomous Villain"), up to his definitive consecration in "Madvillainy," the ingenious collaboration with producer Madlib which immediately positioned itself among the most beautiful rap albums of the newly started millennium.

This brings us to the present day, more precisely in 2004, the year in which Metal Fingers Doom releases "MM..Food?", the official follow-up to that "Operation Doomsday" that had launched his career. And once again, the expectations of his fans and the most avid music lovers are not betrayed: 15 tracks in which our hero's madness shines in all its glory, featuring culinary recipes, lyrics, and dialogues bordering on nonsense, innovative beats rich in '80s soul, and rather crazy adventure companions, like the now inseparable "Chef" Madlib. It’s hard to single out specific tracks, the album is worthy from start to finish, transitioning from samples of "Beef Rap" to stories of "Potholderz" (great beat!!) and "Deep Fried Friendz," and including instrumental tracks like "Fillet-O-Rapper" and "Gumbo" (part of the "but how do they choose the titles?" series) and the beautiful "Rapp Snitch Knishes," featuring a shamelessly '80s beat, a feature by Mr. Fantastik, and the dish is served.

In short, MF Doom does not disappoint and confirms himself as one of the most creative artists in rap and black music in recent years: by now, his name is a guarantee of style and quality, and "MM..Food?" is proof that the results of his hyper-productivity are by no means trivial and predictable. Of course, less is more. But isn't more and better even more so?
