THE REVIEW

This is a "quirky" review. It is written more to gain information about a record than to provide any. The vinyl in question is "We'll Nail You Down" by the very famous Metallica; this bootleg, recorded in Germany and (presumably) in 1985, does not seem equally famous.

Thanks to convoluted family matters, I received this record at home 10-15 years ago with a horrible or at least unusual cover (for Metallica), while on the back (besides the tracklist) there is a photo of a very young Hammett and an almost unrecognizable Hetfield on stage, with the lineup just below, featuring Burton and Ulrich. Further down is the notice that this vinyl was pressed in a colored version with only 500 copies, and I modestly own... one of those NON-colored ones. Apart from the writing "Made in Western Germany" and "This album should be played loud," there's nothing else written, not even the year of publication.

As for the live recording, the quality is between poor and terrible, but it's really a great concert. We are in the middle of the Thrash era (give or take a year), when Metallica was still a band that believed in what they played. Here we have 3 songs from the first "Kill 'em All", 4 from "Ride The Lightning" and a preview from "Master Of Puppets" that was yet to be released. Songs that made history in a genre that many will know by heart (and which I will not dwell on useless descriptions for), which are also very much liked by myself, for whom the last real Metallica album is "...And Justice For All".

For the sake of being a reviewer, being an unusual record, here is the tracklist:

SIDE 1: Creeping Death - Ride The Lightning - Disposable Heroes - No Remorse

SIDE 2: For Whom The Bell Tolls - The Four Horsemen - Fade To Black - Seek & Destroy

And now, the questions about "We'll Nail You Down":

Who among you has a copy?

Is it as rare to find as they say?

Is it a live album from 1985 or did I dream it?

Can it be found on CD? And does it sound just as bad?
