The Profile

Messiah are a Swiss death/thrash metal band formed in 1984 and led by guitarist Remo Broggi. They made their mark with early classics and the acclaimed Rotten Perish (1992), followed by the experimental Underground (1994). After disbanding in the mid-90s, they reunited and returned to activity in the late 2010s.

Formed in Switzerland in 1984; key member: Remo Broggi (guitars). Notable albums include Hymn to Abramelin (1986), Extreme Cold Weather (1987), Choir of Horrors (1991), Rotten Perish (1992), and Underground (1994). Christofer Johnsson (Therion) handled vocals on Underground. Band reunited in 2018 and released Fracmont (2020).

Two reviews chart Messiah’s arc from the conceptual, atmospheric death metal of Rotten Perish to the stylistic swerve of Underground. Rotten Perish is celebrated for intensity, technicality, and spiritist themes. Underground earns respect for ambition and experimentation but divides on execution. The band’s Swiss roots and Remo Broggi’s leadership frame both eras.
