I have never understood anything about Swedish Music (and not only Swedish music some "debaserian buddy" will immediately say).

Too "advanced" for me; too "beyond" the threshold of physical and mental pain. Especially mental.

But I have always been morbidly fascinated by their unique way of interpreting and shaping, at their pleasure, the Metallic verb.

I consists of a single track that exceeds 20 minutes. This alone is enough to quantify the monstrous specific weight when listening to this "sonorous pachyderm."

In my opinion, the pinnacle of their enormous career.

A disturbing, high-strung, oblique, twisted, spasmodic, rocky pinnacle.

According to drummer Tomas, everything was recorded randomly, without following a logical thread. Each member of the band entered the studio, flooding it with the claustrophobic sounds of their instruments. Including Jens' schizoid voice.

And the result is astonishing; in the sense that it holds, it adds up. Inaccessible aliens for anyone.

Colossal Techno-Groove-Death plunges; abrupt, sudden, and unexpected slowdowns as happens more or less at the fourteenth minute.

Again, uncontrollable, uncontrollable intensity assaults; towards the end, they slow down their pace, their killer cadence. Dangerously approaching exhausting Doom territories. With the last seconds where only the sharp, shrill sound of the guitars can be heard.

...and I come out of it destroyed, in pieces...but regenerated...exactly what I needed on this windy and freezing afternoon in Ossola.

Ad Maiora.

This EP should be placed at the top of all time in terms of originality, technique, and above all, brutal musical aggression.

The rhythm and progress of the track leave us no escape until the last 30 seconds where a high-pitched, shrill note of the 6 strings takes us out of the tunnel we entered 21 minutes earlier.

Meshuggah have come very close to fulfilling that wish, indeed, they sound like a machine.

It’s music that sounds like the soundtrack of a reality where everything repeats and expands, the same yet different, being born and dying together, beyond alienation and beyond consumerism.
