Who watches over me? This album is either liked or not, and it’s quite easy to define, given this trio from Bristol (home of Massive Attack, Portishead, James Lavelle-Mo'Wax) which has been around since 1992. To describe the Mesh is quickly done: Human League, The Sparks, Depeche Mode, a little bit of New Order in some sounds, then some obsessive German house rhythms. It's classic synth-pop from the eighties. Nothing more, nothing less. However, the rendition is well done, nice lyrics that stand on their own (our favorite lyric "I fell in love with a photograph..."), well-crafted, as is the music. It’s a divertissement. And of course, there's also the "drama," the camp drama of the aforementioned albums. The all-eighties drama. And it's all sleek. That's it. Enjoyable even if it won't leave a mark anywhere. We want to hear it on the radio and think about the eighties. These renditions don't happen only in Italy.
