I always considered Merzbow listeners a small group of idiots. That type of people who need to show their “fur” to forcibly stand out from the crowd and, sitting on their imaginary podium, pass judgment on everything that falls into the vast cauldron we call “music.”

I have never liked his fans but, to be honest, I have never liked him either. A top-tier japan-nerd, accustomed to producing cacophonic farts and other absurdities synthesized with the sole purpose of attracting attention.

But life changes! It happens that in a “low” moment of your existence, you want something so extreme that, in comparison, Black Metal and Grindcore seem like genres for kids. You need primordial chaos and sonic atrocities capable of sweeping away all the filth and decay that surrounds you. Daily or otherwise.

At first, you feel a bit like an idiot: you, too, are falling into that trap for snobby trippers, but over time, you gleefully stop caring and, not without some difficulty, try to throw yourself heart and soul into the cacophonic turmoil created by the Japanese Masami Akita.

“Music For Bondage Performance” is a Merzbow classic.

White noise, hisses that pierce your eardrums and brain, environmental sounds, and all possible and imaginable devilries created to lead the listener towards delirium. It’s insane, believe me!

An anarchic, devastating collage, devoid of any form of melody or musical semblance.

It may be music for “Bondage,” but if you want my humble opinion, this is above all music for an impending apocalypse. An apocalypse generated by cannibal machines and atomic explosions.
