Today we talk about a small/great legend of country music. Merle Haggard was born in '37 and left us in 2016 on his birthday after living a life that to call "troubled" would be an understatement. He was in reform school at a young age for thefts and then also in San Quentin for armed robbery, but here he had the fortune of listening to a concert by Johnny Cash, and here he understood where his future life was headed: country music! He managed to top the charts with more than 40 of his songs and in 2010 was celebrated at the Kennedy Center Honors. In this record, we listen to him in a live concert with a literally crazy audience (unless there were some edits in the production). I don't love country music, but here I have to give credit to this gentleman who was able to write several classic songs that accompany my afternoon as I sip an absolutely Belgian Delirium Tremens beer. The thought goes to country music, which I would dare to define as the American "liscio" for us Italians, and having played it in orchestras for years and years, praise to him for making me smile on this dreary and foggy day while the cotechino is cooking slowly and inexorably in the kitchen for tonight's dinner. Cheers!
