Memories Of A Lost Soul is a Calabrian band, founded in 1995 by the singer and guitarist Buzz, active for over ten years in the Italian underground. This "Distorted Perceptionz" (released in 2002 as a self-production and recently reissued by Deadsun records with three unreleased tracks) is the third work by the band and as far as I'm concerned, it also represents their compositional peak.

The genre offered is a Swedish-influenced Death metal that reminds one of the Dark Tranquillity of their best times and Death from the latest albums. I can already imagine many of you sighing, given the plethora of bands circulating that are all copies of the early In Flames and Dark Tranquillity albums, and you have every right in the world, but trust me, here you'll hear everything but stale riffs, and listening to the devastating Title-track that serves as the opener will be enough to make you realize you are dealing with a professional and above-average product.

The album proceeds without ever tiring, and the tracks all maintain a very high qualitative level, moving from very intense songs like "Bukowsky Style" and "Nekrotik Nation" to fine acoustic or piano-only interludes. The only flaw of "Distorted Perceptionz" is definitely the not particularly thrilling recording, which however fades into the background given the quality of the tracks offered. It's also worth mentioning that if this album had been made back then with a major label's budget, it would now be an undisputed masterpiece, so forget about the various American bands lacking in ideas and support the Italian underground by making this little gem yours.

This album brings together everything you could wish for from death metal: brutality, technique, masterful songwriting, and also plenty of melody and good taste.

Each song is a journey, a 'distorted perception of life' recounted by Buzz’s voice, more extreme than ever before.
