Massive, distorted, nervous, psychedelic, this is "Hostile Ambient Takeover", the eighteenth work of this crazy and underrated band from Aberdeen (U.S.A.).
The album, in my humble opinion, is certainly one of the most successful episodes of the endless Melvinsian discography, the product of the "sick" and at the same time genius minds of "sidekick" King Buzzo (singer) and Dale Crover (stra-to-spher-ic drummer).

If you decide to listen to this marvel, it will be Crover's drums that set the frenetic opening pace of this masterpiece; you won't even have time to wonder where the bassist is before your acute reflection is swept away by King Buzzo's guitar to start big with a "Black Stooges" on the verge of hardcore, where Crover's (God bless him) devastating volleys will dominate the scene. The very fast "Dr. Jeek" (complete with banjo guitar) will show you that our guys know what they're doing even when they play raw and angry punk. With the electric shocks of "Little Judas Chongo" and the definitive and catacombal riff of "The Fool, the Meddling Idiot", you'll start to remember a guy who always talked about these Melvins and almost always wore their t-shirt? You will follow up with words like: "damn, but these Melvins?!".

If you start to get slightly hyped, I highly recommend "pumping" up your home stereo to the sweet notes of "The Brain Center at Whipples", paying close attention to the last 40 seconds of the song, because everything might just jump. The apparent calm of "Foaming", and the haunting, lengthy, obsessive, and disturbing closing track "The Anti-Vermin Seed" close an album that certainly, if you are very "open" musically speaking, will not disappoint you. In fact, I'm sure it will make you lose your mind in a big way.

Everything that is ugly, dirty, and infinitely evil you can think of in music essentially can be traced back to them.

'Hostile Ambient Takeover' is listenable from start to finish, transitioning from wild outbursts to raw violence and post-industrial experimentalism.
