LA RECENSIONE

We are in 1975 when Mel Brooks creates the ultimate film in comic/absurd cinema.

"Young Frankenstein" is obviously a parody of the famous 1931 film, and the "Young Frankenstein" of the original title is none other than the grandson of the famous Frankenstein, who, thanks to his scientific knowledge, managed to create a monster by taking body and brain from people who were already dead.

The grandson initially repudiates his kinship with his grandfather (calling him "a jerk"), but then inherits his castle and decides to repeat the experiment, obviously with different results.....

This film combines beautiful scenography, stunning black and white, and extremely well-crafted characters (the hunchback Igor above all), and, crucial for an absurd film, it makes you laugh. If some jokes are a bit forced and perhaps feel the weight of the 32 years since its creation, others literally make you burst out laughing.

Moreover, this film anticipates by at least 5 years other absurd masterpieces like those of the Zucker/Abrahams duo ("Airplane!" or "Top Secret" for example).
