THE REVIEW

After a series of positive reviews, here comes another equally challenging and above all useful one for anyone who stumbles upon an album like "Risk," by someone I’d rather not name because it would break my heart.

If "Cryptic Writings" seemed like rock bottom to some for Megadeth, they will immediately reconsider upon listening to this work released in 1999 I believe (since what does it matter to know the exact date), a year when all fans were patiently awaiting a resurgence of creativity from Father Mustaine's band, instead they found themselves with a nice trap as the artwork, with the putrid rat which perhaps is the best thing of the entire album (at least it’s an animal).

No need to dwell too long on these praises and the only thing I can tell you is that despite the lineup being almost the classic one (except for Jimmi De Grasso on drums replacing Menza), the group churns out pieces that have no identity and above all don’t even possess a gene of past productions; this extremely heavy mix (beware of the term extremely heavy because it refers to your patience). What reaches your ears is a bit of "heavy rock pop-ish" without incisiveness and character where the only acceptable tracks (always after you've eaten already) are "crush 'em" and "prince of Darkness," the rest is boredom even just to recount.

Stay away otherwise you’ll risk it.

Note: I gave five stars based on the level of boredom, the max!!!!!!!!!!

Summary by Bot

The review criticizes Megadeth's 1999 album Risk for its lack of originality and weak musical direction. Despite hopes for a creative comeback, the album offers a heavy rock pop sound that alienated fans. Only two tracks are noted as somewhat acceptable. Overall, the album is seen as a tedious listening experience.

Risk is nothing more nor less than a radio-friendly pop-rock album, an attempt to draw closer to the masses.

If approached without prejudice, one encounters an honest CD, without peaks but also without heavy falls of style.
