After a wait of over five years, the third album of this Catanzaro-based band finally sees the light. Active since 1993 and after releasing a 7", a mini CD, and a CD ("Il grande bluff"), "La fine delle favole" could simply indicate that these four Calabrian guys have now reached a maturity that allows them to set aside all adolescent influences and dive headfirst into an album that, as far as I'm concerned, represents their most interesting CD.
Although their genre is often subject to criticism and accusations of immobility, in this disc, you can find tracks on the verge of hardcore like the opening "Nostra signora" and a track I would dare to say is borderline swing like "Canzone nuova". Now someone might say: what do these two genres have to do with each other? Try listening to them and then tell me if these two so different pieces don't have the same melodic soul and the same desire to stand out from the rest of the punk rock we usually listen to in Italy.
The CD also features a tribute to the never too praised Syd Barrett, the former leader of Pink Floyd ("Non sei sbagliato"), and an anthem for all the true ultras ("Ragazzo Ultras"), those who go to the stadium solely to support their beloved team. The references may also stand (Ramones, Bad Religion above all), but Meat for Dogs have their own identity, and perhaps if they were born a little further north, by now we would be talking about one of our most important groups on par with Punkreas and the like.
