Lewis Tollani's review praises Mayo Thompson's 1969 solo album Corky's Debt To His Father for blending traditional American music (country, blues, folk) with avant-garde and experimental tendencies. The review highlights intimate, mood-driven songwriting and references to Barrettian and kraut influences. Thompson is portrayed as bringing Red Crayola's adventurous spirit into a more accessible solo format.

For:Fans of experimental, psychedelic and avant-garde music

The debt that Corky pays to his father is a kaleidoscopic spectrum of emotions in the discovery of how the origins of traditional American music heavily influence the contemporary taste (we are here in 1969), but with hindsight, even the taste yet to come; like a sort of "nothing fundamentally ever changes", except for the technical means used in the service of expression.
