That man is by nature twisted and perverse is now a fact. But to achieve a goal, albeit a noble one (learning a language is, without a doubt), does one have to climb steep walls of mind-boggling linguistic gymnastics... this is asking too much!
Matteo Salvo, a newly successful entrepreneur, shrewd and cunning, who has studied the basics of NLP and a bunch of other things, has invented a "mnemonic" course to learn basic English through free association of ideas. So not an in-depth course, but a course for beginners that focuses entirely on the figurative aspect to remember words, terms, and the basic four rules needed to speak some sort of English.
It is through reading the book in question that we learn that to quickly learn certain words, we need to associate them with figures related to the object itself.
For example, to memorize the word ARM (arm), a man with a machine gun instead of a limb is depicted, so that the person imagines the bizarre figure and automatically comes to the term (arma=arm) and thus the meaning.
Similarly, for EYE (eye), an eye is depicted with a fork stabbed into it, with a comic saying "AHI" (reproducing the same onomatopoeia of the pronunciation), for "sound" (pr. saund) a musical note is shown taking a SAUNa, for CHIN (translation: cin) we depict a chin toasting with a glass, making a toast (cin cin)... and so on in an escalation of disorienting visual aberrations.
Now I don't know if the method works or not (it seems the book is on its 4th reprint!) but undoubtedly such an eccentric and unpredictable method has never been seen before.
But above all, the idea of memorizing hundreds of absurd monsters or highly improbable images in order to learn (?!) a language raises a lot of doubts for me.
I might be "old-fashioned," but I do not believe at all that there are quick and painless techniques to study a foreign language, quit smoking in 7 days, or follow miraculous diets. All things must be conquered with commitment, method, and effort... pochicazzi!
And then: distressing the mind to learn a language. Is it really worth it?!
