LA RECENSIONE

Material, not a real group, but a "family constellation" of musicians centered around the bass player-sound manipulator Bill Laswell, released "The Third Power" in 1991.

A journey into BLACK music that opened a world for me back then. Hip-hop was already being listened to... but here there's EVERYTHING, and everything is of the highest quality - From the raga-dub of "Reality" with Shabba Ranks to the Marley cover "Glory". Heard today, the CD could easily be released tomorrow or in a year without sounding in the least bit "out of time". And to finish, just to list a few names, here are those who play on it: Nicky Skopelitis, Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, Bootsy Collins, Olu Dara, Herbie Hancock, the horn section of James Brown. Vocals by Jungle Brothers, the Last Poets, Shabba Ranks, and others.

What with someone else might have probably become an anarchic mishmash of mixed genres, with Bill Laswell becomes a perfect BLACK SOUP. Enjoy listening.
