THE REVIEW

If it's true that you can get an idea of an entire album from just one song, then after this listen, my desire to explore Mastodon's new work has drastically decreased. All the good feelings I got from "Sultan's curse" have quite gone to hell here. What can I say, the song is a kind of a bad copy of Queens of the Stone Age (and not from the good old days) but played by Mastodon, a band that, in terms of technique, ideas, and sonic power, could, indeed should, do better. It gives me the impression of being thrown together in 5 minutes just for the sake of it, a sort of useless filler. I don't know if you get the idea, but it's the classic "little song" that might work for some, but not for me. I am a person open to change, but this just doesn't work for me. To conclude, the song isn't bad per se, but simply, it isn’t a Mastodon song. Hoping it's just a bump in the road. Ciau.

The reviewer feels the song resembles a lesser version of Queens of the Stone Age and lacks the band's usual technical prowess and creativity. While open to change, the reviewer hopes this is only a minor slip in an otherwise strong career.
