Formed in Chicago in 1983 by Paul Speckmann, Master evolved from proto-thrash roots toward death metal. The band released a self-titled debut in 1990 and the influential On the Seventh Day God Created... Master in 1991.

Paul Speckmann is the singer and bassist and the band's constant member. Early lineup included founding drummer Bill Schmidt. The 1991 album On the Seventh Day God Created...
