Formed in Toronto in 1977. Best known for the single "Echo Beach" (from Metro Music). Early releases appear on late 1970s/early 1980s indie labels (reviews reference Dindisc/Virgin). This Is the Ice Age (1981) involved production work by Daniel Lanois. The band later shortened their name to M+M.

Three DeBaser reviews celebrate Martha and the Muffins' refined new wave/pop sound, highlighting Metro Music, This Is the Ice Age (produced by Daniel Lanois) and Danseparc. Reviewers praise Echo Beach and the band's blend of pop, synth and sax. Overall reception is favorable and nostalgic.

For:Fans of classic new wave, early 80s synth-pop and Canadian post-punk

"Metro Music" (1980, Virgin) sounds like a bucket of ice-cold water in a sultry summer.
