LA RECENSIONE

Marta Sui Tubi are two Sicilian guys from Marsala transplanted to Bologna, who have put together some songs for acoustic guitar. Is that all? And that's enough.

Or rather, this is where the fun begins. Because a demo recorded with just an acoustic guitar was sent to Fabio Magistrali, already the producer of Bugo, and he liked it so much that he decided to produce an album for the two guys. Thus, the album features guitars (strictly acoustic) and voices enriched here and there by drums or noise inserts and perfectly fitting accompanying sounds. However, the core remains the same.

Obviously, the lyrics, ironic and fitting depictions of mediocre metropolitan life, form the backbone of the songs. Sometimes the singing slips into speaking, and there you must pay more attention to what the voice says than to the melody. However, the melody is not missing; in fact, it characterizes almost all the tracks. "L'equilibrista," at the beginning, immediately captivates with a gripping rhythm and engaging singing, while there's immediately room for the slow (and beautiful) "Vecchi difetti." The songs mostly follow an ironically disenchanted line, sometimes irresistibly funny ("Stitichezza Cronica"), elsewhere introspective and narrative.

There's room for beautiful and striking guitar riffs, for funky interludes or absolutely undefinable ones, with the two crazies engaged in vocalizing who knows what on the guitar. Special mentions go to the dreamy "Post" (one of the tracks where Magistrali's production is more striking), "Steno" (so songwriter-like and almost "classic"), the concluding "Sole" (melancholic and dreamy), while in the middle part of the album, the most bizarre, comic, and experimental episodes are concentrated ("Volé," "Il giorno del mio compleanno," "Sei dicembre").

The duration does not exceed 32 minutes. You listen to it in one breath. And then you listen to it again.

Marta Sui Tubi’s crazy CD intrigues me, it introduces me to a world unknown to me, a place of truth laid bare.

I hate falsehood and love defects, the imperfections, the obsessions of my sick body which, like this album, only gives me more certainty of how sick the world is before my mind.
