“Marta Sui Tubi” at Circolo degli Artisti 22/09/2006
On the occasion of the “Enzimi” event at the “Circolo degli Artisti” after a subdued performance by Riccardo Sinigallia accompanied only by his brother and a sleepy (but beautiful, for heaven’s sake...) performance by “Non Voglio Che Clara,” finally Marta Sui Tubi take the stage, and a room that should be fuller explodes with applause.
They, it must be said, started very enthusiastic given the dates that were canceled in June, and right from “Via Dante” it's clear that it will be a great concert, the audience knows it, and they play as if it were the last date of their career.
The show continues with “Cenere” and “Muscoli e Dei” where the guitar incursions at the end of the pieces make them incredibly danceable, making heads almost improperly bob up and down, also thanks to a truly excited Ivan on drums.
“Il Giorno del Mio Compleanno” makes Giovanni go a little wild with his effects, much more contained than usual, and precedes a truly inspired “Volè” almost entirely sung by Carmelo (but how can one sing while playing like this?). Finally, here's “Vecchi Difetti” and from the audience rises a chorus that accompanies the trio throughout the beautiful piece.
The band plays and jokes with the audience, also due to some technical issues with a guitar that forces Carmelo to change the tunings constantly on the same one, anyway, it leads to “Sei Dicembre” and “Abbandono” in which some lighters are seen accompanying the song.
It’s time for a break with “31 Lune” then they thank and leave, to return after a change of shirt for “Equilibrista” and “Post”, the audience in a frenzy and they leave for real (unfortunately). The live show was an example of how to do a concert, how to hold the stage, and how to engage the audience (there was also a funny little performance where “applause for Tubi” was sung), the technical skill of the trio is beyond question, but the enthusiasm they put into their performance is something that makes them special and grows an audience that is still not as vast as it should be.
“Nello spazio che adesso riempi c’è
succo acerbo di densi silenzi che
colleziono da tempo come schegge d’inferno
vecchi difetti”
