Your birthday recently passed, and as a gift, you received a little sum of 50 €, now what is this orange piece of paper good for? Do you put it in the bank? No, maybe keeping it within reach is better. Do you use it to fund your nights out with friends? Better not, otherwise, you might waste it. Third option: you find an interesting event and a big part of the stash disappears...
That's exactly what I did. For a long time, I've had the idea of going to see my favorite Italian band at the presentation of their latest album as part of the "Scrittorincittà" event in Cuneo... But beware, this was not a normal concert. It was also foreseen that some writers who left a comment on the album "Uno" would attend, all under the thrilling setting of the Toselli theater... I eagerly awaited that fateful November 17th. I have long dreamed of being able to attend a performance by the legendary group while comfortably seated in a chair and watching from up close Godano doing those fleeting movements of his.
And so it was, on November 17th I arrived at the theater at 8.30 and when some gigantic guys opened the doors, I immediately took my seat... I was afraid of a heart attack as my heart was beating strongly with excitement, then the lights go out and a guy starts reading a beautiful piece about the theme of the latest album, love, in all its forms...
Then when the lights illuminate Marlene, the moment arrived, Tesio, Bergia, the two new recruits Luca Saporiti on bass and the multi-instrumentalist Davide Arneudo, but where is HE?
The notes of "Canzone Sensuale" start and I see a man in a white shirt running towards the microphone, it's HIM, without his guitar, incredibly lean, his mane revealing a look towards the audience, then he starts singing, his voice cuts the atmosphere, the mind is now in ecstasy... After that, Cristiano grabs an acoustic guitar and begins "Stato D'Animo", still seated the adrenaline of "Fantasmi" enters the veins of those present. This is followed by "Sapore di Miele" and "Uno", perfect, filled with a grit that wasn't in the studio. Not to mention "111", with the frontman just waiting for the right moment to explode... And what an explosion! "Abbracciami" is more "felt" than on the record, no smudges concerning the English part (even if Godano's isn't exactly the best).
The new songs are over, first Marco Bosonetto and then Tiziano Scarpa arrive to tell us with a touch of irony the story of Marlene Kuntz, a beautiful moment, which made us laugh and reflect at the same time. After the interlude and a bit of improvisation, they leave the stage. The lights go out, is it over? No, the whole thing barely lasted an hour and a few minutes... But we were fooled, indeed they return, and the riff of "L'Esangue Deborah" unleashes all the applause, but it's pure chaos when Bergia introduces "Nuotando nell'Aria", followed by "Ineluttabile". Cristiano changes guitars for every song and at one point murmurs: "This song I wrote shortly after the birth of my son, who is now wandering around here somewhere, I dedicate it to him" and right after everyone sings "Serrande Alzate", another great emotion. In "Schiele Lei, Me" there's all the expressive charge of the band, the finale is all from "Bianco Sporco", with "Amen" and "Bellezza".
As per the Marlene tradition, they return to the stage amidst applause and delight us with "La Canzone che Scrivo per Te" and "A Fior di Pelle", at the end of which there is a Godano who loses control and starts to writhe, violently playing the guitar with the distortion and making as much noise as possible. After this, it's all over.
To conclude, I confirm it was an incredible evening, they played almost all my favorites from the new album, and my sincerest compliments to the new bassist, who really showed great confidence. It's the second time I've seen Marlene Kuntz and they impressed me even more than in Saluzzo...
