...and in these rooms one screams / and a thud stitches the skin open / a glacial shiver rises from below / I disappear / I am no more / you are no more...
The absolute masterpiece of Marlene Kuntz.
It is just their second album, but it is the best of all.
Not just "Ape regina", each track deserves its own review. "Il Vile", a piece about the transience of life, "Retrattile", a somewhat relentless and disgusted chronicle of everyone's entry into the world of "adults" (parassitare per la nuova dignità / è un surrogato delle andate vanità / così disponi e sei esplicito col bèige / che non ti dona ma ti spara via dai guai), "3 di 3" (a tale of a disgusting sexual triangle), "Cenere" (perhaps about a childhood sexual experience?), "L'agguato" (a chronicle of a fatal road accident)... one could go on for hours.
The sound is not just simple rattling rock, there is something different that, for those who know them, distinguishes only Marlene. An unrivaled and unmatched album. Just "Ape regina" alone is worth the purchase, but the album is full of gems: not a single song excluded.
"Il vile" has an obsessive guitar riff, a simple and hypnotic piece, "L'esangue Deborah" is the sweetest piece of the album despite the irony that permeates it; "Ti giro intorno" is a very original piece, the images it evokes change continuously. When I listen to it, almost at the conclusion of the CD, I feel that it interprets what the listener feels for the album: bastano i prodigi che tu sei / contano i sapori che mi dai / io ti giro intorno e ingoio fremiti / io ti giro intorno senza limiti...
In "Il vile" the M.K. song form has assumed for the first time the perfect form that we all now know.
An album without flaws, solid, in one word: indispensable.
