Mario Puzo (1920–1999) was an American author best known for writing The Godfather.

Born October 15, 1920; died July 2, 1999. First novel The Dark Arena (1955). Author of The Godfather (published 1969). Co-winner of the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Godfather (with Francis Ford Coppola).
