Maria Zerfall is the solo project of Christine Weyrether (from Düsseldorf). Born out of early-1980s post-punk activity, the project produced abrasive home-recorded industrial/noise music; notable compilations collect material from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s.

According to contemporary reviews and release notes, Maria Zerfall emerged from the German post-punk/industrial scene; influences and touchpoints cited include Throbbing Gristle, Einsturzende Neubauten, Swans, Foetus, SPK and Laibach. The compilation Kopfkrieg 1985 - 1995 was issued/reissued by Membrum Debile Propaganda and collects lo-fi home recordings and four-track tapes.
