I’m reviewing a bit late an album by an Italian singer I discovered online; the record is the debut work of Marco Negri, an artist from Mantua.

I must say that after listening to all twelve tracks of the album entitled "Il mondo secondo Marco", I noticed a freshness that, honestly, I haven’t encountered for years even in many much more renowned artists than "our guy". Many songs are, as the saying goes, "instant hits", choruses you remember from the very first listen (see the tracks "Doroty, Prendi il sole, Te l'ho detto, Superstar"), as well as other potential pop singles like "L'ultimo sole# 2" and "Quella volta che".

The album flows by quickly (about 40 minutes); there are no weak moments, everything is well balanced, except for a few parts that perhaps show the limits of an underproduced sound. Marco Negri’s voice is young, friendly, and easy to listen to in its simplicity, toying with the listener without ever being cloying.

The acid test will be hearing Negri perform live, as the 12 tracks that make up this sound mosaic (9 sung + 3 instrumental bridges) are richly arranged and full of synths, reverberated drums, backing vocals, and some rap sections that give greater depth to an album that definitely has what it takes to make an impression in the mainstream market.
