Hello everyone, today I'm writing to share my thoughts on Marco Masini's new album, "Niente d'importante."
I'll start by saying that I'm not an ardent fan of the Tuscan singer, but I must acknowledge that he has created some truly remarkable songs throughout his long career, alternating between Sanremo hits and somewhat more introspective and emotional tracks.
Before writing this review, I thoroughly researched his discography to gradually arrive at the analysis of this new album, which is preceded by the homonymous single "Niente d'importante" that, to be frank, disappointed me a bit (the album is qualitatively superior to the single).
Let's start by saying that our national Masini had been absent from the scene for 3 years with an album, so it was about time to produce a new one; this new product has arrived and is not bad at all. The previous album, released in 2009, was called "L'italia e altre storie" and I really liked it a lot. This new album, however, is a bit different, less angry and more romantic... with almost classic melodic Italian pop tones but effective. The lyrics are effective, never clichéd or banal, with music that engages, sometimes reminiscent of Masini's past work, yet remains effective. Love is a major theme in this album, with various types of love: reciprocated love, unrequited love, ended love... there's something for everyone. The songs I want to highlight are "Il buffone del momento," which is a beautiful and very poignant ballad, "Colpevole," another very engaging and melancholic track, "L'amore si ricorda di te," a song about love returning when we least expect it, and then "Marco come me," a very introspective song. The aesthetics of this album, however, did not appeal to me at all, with unattractive cover art and photos, poorly curated... yet the content itself I liked; Masini does not disappoint and returns in great style.
Positive aspects: If you like artistically crafted pop and masterfully sung, buy this album.
Negative aspects: Some self-plagiarism in terms of music, and a few songs in the tracklist are less inspired compared to the rest of the CD.
Final score: 7.5
