Danish metal band formed in Hvidovre in the mid-1990s, led by vocalist Lars Larsen, known for power metal roots and later heavier, thrash- and progressive-influenced albums.

Formed in Hvidovre, Denmark; singer Lars Larsen is the long-time vocalist. Early works are power-metal oriented; later albums incorporate thrash and progressive elements. The band released albums on labels including Massacre and Locomotive (the latter mentioned for The Black Circus Part II).

Seven DeBaser reviews by Hellring trace Manticora's shift from Teutonic power metal toward heavier, thrash- and progressive-tinged sounds. Some albums (Safe, The Black Circus pair, Darkness With Tales To Tell) receive praise for variety and heaviness; others (Hyperion, 8 Deadly Sins) are critiqued for inconsistency and weak vocals. The vocalist Lars Larsen's tone is repeatedly noted as divisive. Overall: an uneven but evolving discography.

A non-urgent, unconvincing album. A real misstep for the Danish band.

Safe thus presents itself as an excellent product, which, released at the end of 2010, can be considered one of the happiest episodes of last year in the metal horizon.

The Danish combo, now a mainstay of European metal, managed to rise from the ashes, offering a renewed sound, but above all, it has swept away all the doubts raised about them, thanks to a complex, varied and engaging work, in other words, returning to propose all those elements that Manticora had lost.
