The Profile

Mantas was the early band formed in Orlando, Florida in 1983 by Chuck Schuldiner with Rick Rozz and Kam Lee. Recordings and demos from that period were later compiled as Death by Metal.

Demos were recorded in Schuldiner family’s garage; tracks draw influence from Venom, Slayer, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. Relapse Records compiled and released the recordings as Death by Metal (2012). Chuck Schuldiner died on December 13, 2001.

Mantas was the teenage band Chuck Schuldiner formed in Orlando in 1983. Its rough garage demos, featuring Rick Rozz and Kam Lee, were compiled as Death by Metal. The collection is regarded as an important early document in the genesis of death metal.
