Heavy-psychedelic-stoner rock. Am I overreaching? Perhaps, but I wouldn't bet on it.
I only know that this album, which happened to fall into my hands by chance, I like. They come from Sweden, and from what I’ve read, they are one of the best bands around, as far as the genre is concerned. “The Music Cartel” distributed it in 1999, and the success came deservedly. Before this album, some unofficial releases were published. Their sound flows refined and heavy, going beyond the laws of music. They mix various trends, without neglecting the 70’s rock and the stoner foundations! In their music, great masters of the prog rock and psychedelia are recalled.

The self-titled album in question is the result of a maturation process that started with their first demos. It doesn’t follow a precise logic, but it is a heavy and determined album. It is indirect and complex stoner rock that never abandons the groovy factor. The four members of the group are technically very skilled, and each one makes a good impression. From N. Andersson's “ride” cymbal to the instruments of Gustafsson and Berlin, up to the soft vocals of the other Andersson, Jorgen. Their style is unique and can only be appreciated, even more so if listened to in “trippy states”. States which they traditionally enter, without, however, abusing during the recording and creation period of new works, proving that they know what they are doing! They are also “stoned”, but playing and writing songs are two totally different things. An excellent mentality combined with beautiful and influenced music, this is the philosophy of these 4 Swedes.

A bit of Kyuss, a touch of King Crimson and Jethro Tull, a reference to the 70’s rock and the psychedelic of Pink Floyd, explosive and distorted Stoner rock, and a strong desire to combine something new: this is the formula from which the creature Mammoth Volume is born, indicated as the worthy heir of the great “seventies” works.

“Mammoth Volume. Really, the band's name says it all"
