Disclaimer: I don't like prog. Too many technicalities and sugar-coated sounds for someone like me who feeds on extreme and terribbbbbile non-music.

However, I was struck by this strange disc released years ago by Black Widow, a Genoese label known for everything that is '70s sound.

Malombra, let's say it straight away, don't play a canonical prog but a dark and esoteric form of it.

Listening to "Our Lady Of The Bones", you get the impression of wandering through lost forests, passing through roaring waterfalls, and immersing in a pagan ritualism that knows few rivals in music. In short... more than Black Metal!

A bit of Italian prog, a bit of Black Sabbath, and a bit of darkwave, manage to build truly suggestive sound structures. Oh dear, I’m even shedding a tiny tear!

Very long tracks, as was to be expected, extremely articulated and a voice that ensnares and hits (Mercy's, still active with IANVA today).

Best tracks? In my opinion "A Song For Sylvia Plath", the title track, and "Oniria".

Recommended to all those who are not like me.
