Every now and then, it is necessary to lend a hand to those who possess excellent skills in making music, but all too often fail to catch the eye of the masses, therefore undeservedly achieving little success. This time, my choice fell on Malibustesi, a band originating from Montelupone, in the province of Macerata.

They started in 2002 as a cover band (by now almost a classic), but already in 2003, they began to write their own music. The moment to enter the studio to record their first album came in 2008, where they were lucky enough to be entirely financed by the municipality, as part of a cultural project funded by the town itself of Montelupone. This shows that, after all, people still believe in the young, and this represented a huge advantage for the band, fewer problems to think about and more focus on creating their own music. And finally, their debut "Quando volano gli asini" saw the light in February 2009. Mind you, right away, this is not a masterpiece, nor something revolutionary. But the strength of this album lies precisely in its simplicity, its linearity. What Malibustesi (led by the Stortoni brothers, Andrea and Daniele, respectively vocals/lead guitar and drummer, and Matteo Ercoli on bass) offer is not overly challenging alternative rock, with vague references to the Italian Marlene Kuntz and Afterhours, and a subtle layer of hard rock shades. And as already mentioned, everything flows smoothly and genuinely, without challenging the listener's ear. A musical proposal for everyone, essentially. The songs already written and performed over the years, according to the band itself, do not have a specific meaning, as they are freely interpretable by those who listen. The success has been so great that they could afford to play almost everywhere in Italy, thus embarking on a long series of concerts and participations in various regional and national-level festivals, including twice at the Italia Wave Marche and the Lorenzo Live Rock Day, winning the 2008 edition. Other victories in music festivals, and the fortune to open concerts for groups like I Teatro Degli Orrori, Giardini Di Mirò, LNRipley, and Casino Royale.

Even today, Malibustesi continue to play, albeit with less momentum two years after the album's release, but there are already rumors that a second one is in the works! Therefore, for now, we can only wait and wish for a better, more refined, and mature record than the last. Let’s hope that Malibustesi manage to "make the donkeys of rock fly" increasingly higher!
