I'm not a big fan of music sung in Italian in general. But I like to continually explore the landscape of the bel paese, especially underground, to prove myself wrong every time I discover how much talent comes from the rehearsal rooms of all over Italy.

With Male di Grace it was the same. About 5 years ago I came across their music through My Space and was struck by it. At the time they only had 4 tracks, part of a self-titled EP, which already hinted at their talent and the strength of their music, capable of going beyond conventions and genres. All these years, I have followed them closely, waiting for their passion and energies to turn into a full-fledged album. And here it is. "Tutto è come sembra." Self-produced, as often happens in Italy, but curated down to the smallest details, to the point of reaching perfection. From the disk's artwork, beautiful, gorgeous, captivating. Just as captivating is their music. Derivativa for sure, also because everything nowadays derives from something that is part of one's background, but their talent lies precisely in finding the right combination between completely distant inputs, crafting an original and powerful style.

The music of Male di Grace is engaging, "simply" direct, warmly rock, skillfully balanced, quite psychedelic and intriguing, taking listeners on journeys through the reddest desert and the deepest intimacy. So, if you really feel the need to label them, imagine for a moment the early Marlene Kuntz jamming in the desert at sunset with Jesus Lizard. But much more powerful. Among the tracks I certainly prefer are "Il Condannato" (which, if you're interested, you can also find in video form), "Dolce Miele," "Ai Confini," and "Male di Grace," but I truly deeply love every single episode of this wonderful album, the child of four genuinely rock souls.

Worth mentioning is the contribution of Mario Lalli (Yawning Man, Fatso Jetson) on guitar for the surf version of "Ninna Nanna per Grisu'." Have a good listen and Rock'n'Roll!
