The production of mainstream Italian music nowadays is based on pure marketing and business concepts; consequently, those who truly want to listen to good music retreat, as usual, into the depths of the underground to find a ray of light in this artistically extinguished Italy. It was indeed difficult for me to believe that a band like Malcondita could renew my interest in truly Italian lyrics mixed with healthy and pure rock. Yet, these three guys (well, guys is a big word!) demonstrate with this album that they steer clear of current fashion and trends, they play well and donât repeat themselves in any of their tracks, nothing predictable or copied, nothing linear and fixed. They mix tracks with extreme ferocity with very soft and meaningful ones very well. Itâs one of those albums that by the second listen, youâre already there humming along, because the tracks get right into your head without knocking!
Unfortunately, it must also be said that Elenaâs voice can either be liked or not, having a peculiar cadence, and at times metrically very fast, so much so that itâs hard to grasp the meaning. However, the lyrics are very well-crafted, describing moments that each of us has surely experienced, such as âContinuo A Bereâ or âAllâInferno.â Nonetheless, by closely examining the content of the lyrics, one can notice the emphasis on femininity, perhaps too sharp, almost not suitable for a male audience. All in all, the music isnât feminine at all, and in the context of song and lyrics, Malcondita doesn't miss a beat, the album flows like a story told, wicked, ruthless, critical and without a happy ending, as evidenced by the song âFrigida,â which is almost like stamping a spiked boot on the head of the person you dislike the most, just like âOdio Lento,â also brilliant is the idea of placing an âIntroâ in the middle of the album.
In conclusion, a beautiful album to listen to and order from the internet because it is only available in certain parts of Italy; we are still talking about underground and independence. But if you want to listen to good music, thatâs where you need to stop!
