Deep Purple

The pinnacle of rock music. Let's call things as they are, no one even remotely comparable to their greatness. Immense. Exquisite in the studio with albums like IN ROCK, FIREBALL, MACHINE HEAD, BURN, PERFECT STRANGERS. Shockingly good live; if you don't believe it, just listen to any live performance from the '70s. Anyone who thinks they weren't the best is clearly acting in bad faith.
