Among the great Italian singer-songwriters, he stands out for the sophistication of his music. He is the only one that cannot be sung decently while playing just a guitar. He is often criticized for his lyrics, which I won't comment on (they may be liked or disliked, and one should know the dozens of artistic references he cites). I prefer to emphasize the beauty and originality of his music, sometimes sweet, sometimes firm, sometimes cold and electronic. He must absolutely be listened to.

Franco Battiato

Italian singer-songwriter and composer from Sicily, Battiato moved from 1970s electronic/progressive experimentation to chart-topping pop with La voce del padrone, and later to spiritual, orchestral and operatic works. He frequently collaborated with arranger Giusto Pio and philosopher Manlio Sgalambro.
