Edoardo Bennato

In the '70s and the first half of the '80s, he was an absolutely (and I emphasize absolutely) great singer-songwriter. He didn’t miss a beat; his albums from the late '80s are also very good. It doesn’t matter to me that he completely lost his inspiration afterward; the works from '73 to '85 were and remain among the greatest masterpieces produced by Italian music.

Edoardo Bennato (Naples, 1946) is an Italian singer‑songwriter known for blending rock and blues with incisive satire and fairy‑tale concept albums. A charismatic live performer and early one‑man‑band on Italy’s big stages, he co‑wrote and performed the 1990 World Cup song “Un’estate italiana” with Gianna Nannini.
