The first bassist to set the musical rules of a band. Since Townshend was essentially a fabulous "rhythmic" player, he had to reshape his playing style; practically the solos were done by him (and Moon, of course, but Keith was a continuous solo and doesn’t count). Thus, he combined the solidity of the rhythm section with creativity through his incredible way of using the instrument. In addition to that, his stage composure was the perfect counterpoint to the three beloved "crazy ones." Offstage though; his friendship with Moon turned the pair into a party and hotel war machine. On and off stage, a unique rhythm section! And with that tight skeleton suit, he was a sight to behold....
