To think that John only knows how to do hyper-technical and/or hyper-fast things without feeling is one of the most ridiculous clichés; just listen to the live performance he did with Rudess to understand this, and if you don’t get it from that, you should definitely see a really good ENT doctor!
That said, I know people who say that Vai, Satriani, and Gilbert can only do fast and technical things without feeling, so I’d say “de gustibus.” In any case, despite John himself having admitted several times in interviews that he doesn’t consider himself on the same level as those monsters, the fact remains that he is a top-level artist with serious skills!
