Above them hovers the stereotype that they are merely a bunch of poor depressed souls with fans perpetually tormented by suicidal instincts. And that’s wrong; I won't deny their melancholic streak, but they are so much more than that. Musically incredibly valid (ranging from the early alternative rock to the electronics of Kid A and Amnesiac), they can boast having composed some of the most influential albums in music history, and the themes of their lyrics vary from the alienation of modern man and the emptiness of his soul to politics and environmentalism (Pablo Honey excluded). I would dare say that they are one of the most important and influential bands to emerge in the '90s and still active (with the same lineup), if not the most important and influential.
