Years ago, perhaps it was still the dark 80s or the early 90s, I read an article in Rockerilla that talked about Fairport Convention. There was a phrase that compelled me to get to know them: "a band that, in moments of inspiration, could make even Bob Dylan pale." A bit exaggerated, perhaps, but What we did..., Unhalfbricking, Liege and Lief, Full House and House Full... are essential.

Fairport Convention

Fairport Convention are an English folk rock band formed in London in 1967. Pioneers of British folk rock, they fused traditional songs with electric arrangements; the landmark album Liege & Lief (1969) is widely cited as a cornerstone of the genre. Key figures include Sandy Denny, Richard Thompson, Dave Swarbrick, Simon Nicol, and Ashley Hutchings.
