I may be cliché and perhaps excessive, but I love this band too much, which I consider among the best of all time, and not just in Metal!

American death metal band founded and led by Chuck Schuldiner, widely regarded as a pioneering and highly influential act in death metal. Active primarily from 1983 until 2001; Schuldiner died in 2001.
