He conveyed the limits, contradictions, and hypocrisies of adults through the eyes of a child. At least three masterpieces (Edward Scissorhands - Nightmare Before Christmas - Big Fish), some missteps, and stylistic exercises. After so many years, the weight of his most substantial works still outweighs everything else.
