Giuseppe Ungaretti

Giuseppe Ungaretti (1888–1970) was an Italian poet, essayist, and academic, a central figure of Italian Hermeticism. Born in Alexandria, Egypt, he served in World War I and forged an essential, concentrated style in works like Il porto sepolto and L'allegria. He later taught in Brazil and at the University of Rome.
