One of the most beautiful and unexpected transformations in the history of rock. After two albums of decent but somewhat impersonal synth pop and a great transitional album, Mark Hollis decides to create an ethereal, celestial but above all spiritual sound (as can be seen in his lyrics) that is very evocative. Spirit of Eden is one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard in my life, and Laughing Stock is right there, very close to its predecessor.

Talk Talk

Talk Talk were an English band formed in London in 1981 by Mark Hollis, Paul Webb and Lee Harris, with early keyboardist Simon Brenner and long‑time producer/co-writer Tim Friese‑Greene. They evolved from acclaimed 80s synth-pop to the influential, spacious soundscapes of Spirit of Eden (1988) and Laughing Stock (1991), before disbanding in the early 1990s.
